Privacy Policy

Last updated October 21, 2026

The short version: Every Item keeps your data on your iPhone. You don't need an account, and we don't collect, see, sell or share your receipts, items or photos.

This policy explains how the Every Item iPhone app (“the app”) and this website, everyitem.app (“the website”), handle information. Every Item is made by Terrence Burns, an independent developer based in California (“we”, “us”).

What the app stores, and where

When you use the app, you may add items, receipts (photos, PDFs, screenshots and emails you share into the app), purchase dates, prices, return deadlines, warranty dates, notes, photos and rooms. All of this is stored locally on your iPhone. It is not sent to us, and we have no server that holds it.

  • No account. The app does not ask for your name, email address or a password.
  • Receipt scanning happens on your device. Text recognition runs on your iPhone. Your receipt images aren't uploaded to read them.
  • Share Sheet imports. When you share a receipt email, PDF or screenshot into the app, a copy is saved in the app on your iPhone. The app doesn't access your mailbox, photo library or files beyond what you choose to share or select.
  • Reminders for return deadlines and warranty expiry are scheduled as local notifications on your iPhone.
  • Exports. If you create a home inventory PDF or CSV export (Pro), the file is created on your iPhone. Where it goes next (for example, emailing it to your insurer) is up to you.

How your data is protected

Your data is protected by iOS Data Protection, which encrypts files on your iPhone using a key tied to your device passcode. You can also turn on an optional Face ID lock so the app requires Face ID (or your device passcode) to open. Face ID is handled entirely by iOS; the app never receives your face data.

Because your data lives on your device, keeping your iPhone protected with a passcode is the most important thing you can do to keep it private.

Backups

Like most iPhone apps, the app's data may be included in your iPhone backups (iCloud Backup or a backup to your computer), depending on your settings. Those backups are created and stored by Apple or on your own computer under Apple's terms, not by us, and we can't access them.

Information we do not collect

We do not collect personal information through the app. The app does not include advertising, does not track you across apps or websites, and does not use third-party analytics. We do not sell or share personal information.

Purchases

Pro subscriptions and lifetime purchases are processed by Apple through the App Store. We do not receive your payment details. Apple may provide us with limited, non-identifying sales reports. Apple's handling of your information is covered by Apple's own privacy policy.

Crash reports and Apple services

If you choose to share analytics with app developers in your iPhone settings, Apple may share crash reports and usage statistics with us in a form that doesn't identify you. You can turn this off at any time in Settings › Privacy & Security › Analytics & Improvements.

The website

This website is a simple static site. It has no sign-up forms, no cookies, no advertising and no analytics scripts. Like any website, the company that hosts it may automatically keep standard server logs (such as IP address, browser type and the page requested) for security and reliability. We don't use these logs to identify you.

Contacting support

If you email us for support, we'll receive your email address and whatever you include in your message. We use it only to reply to you, and we delete support emails when they're no longer needed.

A future optional feature: email forwarding

We may later add an optional feature that lets you forward receipt emails to a dedicated address so they appear in the app. That feature would require some data (the emails you forward) to pass through a server. It is not part of the app today. Before any such feature ships, we will update this privacy policy to explain exactly what is collected, how it's protected and how long it's kept, and the feature will be off unless you choose to use it.

Children

The app is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Your rights, including California residents

Because we don't collect personal information through the app, there is no app data held by us to access, correct or delete. You can delete your data at any time by deleting items in the app or deleting the app from your iPhone (and from any backups you keep). California residents: we do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined under California law. If you have contacted support, you can ask us to delete your emails.

Changes to this policy

If we change how the app or website handles information, we'll update this page and the “Last updated” date above before the change takes effect. Significant changes will also be noted in the app's release notes.
